Today we bring some sad news regarding the Blue Eyes event.
As we're sure you're all aware, and indeed fed up of hearing about, the COVID-19 pandemic is a real issue.
COVID-19 is also, sadly, effecting Blue Eyes.
We were hoping that we wouldn't have to make this post, but due to certain circumstances, it is nessacery.
We have been in constant contact with the charity, but due to all charity staff now being furloghed, we are unable to finish the things nessacery for the event to be ran as planned.
Running an event of Blue Eyes' size requires a lot of logistical planning, and constant dialogue between Event Management and the charity.
We've included part of the initial email which the Blue Eyes management team recieved on Friday below, which was explaining the situation regarding staff being furloughed, and that all staff are not allowed to work.
"We are having to furlough as of Monday which means no one will be working until further notice.
Is there any way we could extend the date of the fundraising so we can do it properly when this is over?"
It's with a heavy heart, that we have to say that as a result of the current situation in the world,
Blue Eyes will not be taking place on the 15th of August of this year.
So what happens now?
We are going to continue to plan the event.
The event will happen before the end of 2020, but at this moment in time we can't confirm when this will be.
We promise that Blue Eyes 2020 will take place, we just need to work out when is best to hold the event.
Why can't Blue Eyes go ahead on the original date?
To put it simply, we don't have a fundraising page.
We have had ongoing difficulties with JustGiving with minimal feedback from their support, meaning we have been trying to get a charity account set up for our chosen charity for over 3 months now.
Ollie and Alex are really dissapointed that we have had to postpone the event, as the whole charity were excited to get involved, as this is the first gaming event they've ever seen, which is raising money for charity.
However, following the government's legislation, once staff are furloghed, they are not permitted to work, meaning we are not able to continue to try and get the JustGiving issue resolved.
Ollie is still in contact with the charity's manager who is still permitted to work, and we are still trying to find a solution, but it's unlikely we will reach a solution in time.
We are not going to reveal the charity until we can get everything set up and published at once, purely to add to the suprise.
A statement from Ollie
"It is with great sadness that we have had to postpone Blue Eyes 2020.
I have been working extremely hard over the last 12 months to bring Blue Eyes 2020 to the community.
I've got some amazing ideas in the works, and I promise that once we can get back to communicating with the charity, Blue Eyes 2020 will be hosted.
We've had so much community anticipation, it has really touched my heart.
I want to thank every single one of you reading this for showing love and support towards the event.
The charity have been trying so hard to try and get the JustGiving set up with my help, but it hasn't worked, we've been waiting for around 2 weeks for any form of communication from JustGiving.
The charity are just as upset by postponing the event as I am, but sadly, we've been left with no choice.
We are contunuing to work hard to ensure we can get the event ready.
Make sure you keep an eye on our social media and discord server for further updates.
Stay safe, and thank you for your support."
We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has shown support to Blue Eyes, and we promise that Blue Eyes 2020 will take place, we just need to work out when is best to hold the event.
We want to also stress the importance of staying inside and protecting yourself and others from Coronavirus.
The sooner we can get past this pandemic, the sooner we can all get back to normal life.
We have attached the UK Government's advice on how to stay safe during the pandemic below, please make sure you're familiar with what to do, we want you all to stay safe.
